Biogas dryer type WBG

MTA type WBG biogas dryers cover a wide range of needs from 50 to 10,000 Nm³/h under negative or positive pressure, generate a very low pressure drop and address the following main applications:
- Biogas from wastewater treatment plants.
- Biogas from non-hazardous waste storage facilities (landfill).
- Biogas from mesophilic or thermophilic digesters for local authorities, industry or agricultural plants.
- Mine gas (firedamp).
- Biomethane for injection into the natural gas grid.
Main advantages of the MTA type WBG biogas dryer
- All-stainless-steel heat exchangers with removable ends allowing the tube bundle to be cleaned, thereby maintaining the original pressure drop over time.
- An all-stainless-steel coalescing demister separator, removable and cleanable, maintaining the original pressure drop over time. It is assembled directly to the dryer exchanger and offers separation efficiency close to 100% across a wide flow range.
- A very low pressure drop generated by compact, fully smooth tube bundles.
- A dew-point temperature kept constant despite sudden variations in the biogas flow to be treated, thanks to a large thermal mass. This thermal mass also limits the refrigeration unit's stops and starts, thereby extending the life of the refrigeration components.
- Energy consumption proportional to the thermal load to be treated: as biogas varies over time in flow, pressure, humidity and temperature, the type WBG biogas dryer adapts immediately to the new operating conditions.
- MTA type WBG biogas dryers allow a high inlet temperature of the gas to be treated. For some models we can treat biogas with an inlet temperature above 160 °C.
- A simple, proven traditional design using off-the-shelf components, limiting and simplifying maintenance operations.
- The type WBG biogas dryer is suited to and protected against aggressive gaseous environments.
- The dryer exchanger and the separator are thermally insulated, acting as a vapour barrier and protected from sun exposure by their anti-UV coating.
Main options of the MTA type WBG biogas dryer
- Frame assembly and hydraulic connection between the exchanger/separator section and the refrigeration section, the whole meeting ATEX Zone II requirements.
- A stainless-steel casing for the refrigeration unit.
- Variable-speed drive for the axial fans.
- 460 V / 3 / 60 Hz power supply with UL certificates.
- Hydraulic connections with an interface meeting ASME VIII code.
The MTA dynamic-thermal-mass refrigeration biogas dryer, type WBG, mainly consists of:
- a dryer exchanger, condensing the water vapour contained in the biogas on the cold-wall principle. The liquid water thus formed is separated from the gas by a highly efficient coalescing demister separator. The condensate is drained off by gravity.
- a refrigeration unit matched to the thermal balance of the dryer exchanger, fitted with a hydraulic module.
It offers a large thermal mass that responds to sudden variations in the thermal load to be treated (biogas). The refrigeration unit engages in proportion to the thermal load to be treated, thereby limiting electricity consumption.
The MTA dynamic-thermal-mass refrigeration biogas dryer, type WBG, is available in two treatment processes.
Biogas dryer placed downstream of a digester with mesophilic digestion or upstream of a booster.
